How to pack clothes for moving
Hanging clothes: wardrobe boxes
The fastest way. A wardrobe box has a rail across the top, so you lift clothes off your wardrobe rail on their hangers and hang them straight in. At the other end they go straight back into the wardrobe, crease-free.
- Fold the box into shape and tape the bottom.
- Slot the hanging rail into the top.
- Hang clothes in, not too tightly packed.
- Put shoes or folded jumpers in the bottom if there's space.
- Close and tape the top.
Allow about one wardrobe box per full wardrobe.
Folded clothes: large boxes
Jumpers, t-shirts, jeans and bedding are light, so they go in large boxes. You can also leave clothes in chest-of-drawer drawers if your removal company is happy to carry them that way. Ask first.
Shoes
Stuff shoes with paper so they keep their shape, wrap pairs together, and pack them in medium boxes with the heaviest at the bottom.
Packing tip: Pack a separate bag with a few days of clothes for each person. It saves digging through boxes in the first week.
