How we estimate
We start from typical box numbers per room, based on typical UK homes: bedrooms 5 medium and 4 large each, an average kitchen 10 medium and 1 large, a living room 6 medium and 3 large, and so on. Then we adjust for how much you own. Tape is roughly one roll per 20 boxes. For more detail, read how many boxes do I need?
How does the box calculator work?
It adds up typical box numbers for each room in your home, adjusts for how much you own, and adds tape, paper, bubble wrap and wardrobe boxes. Then it picks the cheapest way to buy that: a kit plus extras, or individual items.
Is the estimate exact?
No. It is a starting point based on typical homes. If you have a full loft, lots of books or have lived in your home a long time, choose "lots of stuff".
